Measurements for the perfect fit

Shopping for a handmade Mochila online should feel just as personal as discovering one in person. Every Mochila Wayuu is unique—woven knot by knot by master artisans in La Guajira, Colombia. To help you shop with confidence, we’ve created this simple guide (and video below) so you’ll know exactly how your new bag will fit.

The main measurements of a mochila Wayuu

There are 4 key measurements you need to know for the perfect fit.

1. Base Diameter

The base is the bottom of the bucket bag. Place your tape measure across the circular bottom and this tells you how roomy the base is.

2. Bucket Height

Measure from the bottom of the bag straight up to the rim. This shows how tall the bag is and how much it can carry.

3. Strap length

Lay the strap flat and measure from end to end.

4. Strap Drop

This is half the strap length and lets you know how and where the bag will sit on you.

How to measure the strap drop correctly

  1. Place one end of the measuring tape at the top of your shoulder.
  2. Bring it diagonally across your body to your hip bone.
  3. That number is your ideal strap drop length—but don’t worry, usually anything 2 inches above or below will still fit you beautifully.
  • Medium Mochila

Base Diameter: 7.5–9 in (19–23 cm)

    Height: 9–11 in (23–28 cm)

Strap Length: 38–44 in (97–112 cm)

Perfect for everyday use—essentials like wallet, phone, makeup pouch.

  • Large Mochila (standard size)

Base Diameter: 9–10.5 in (23–27 cm)

    Height: 11–13 in (28–33 cm)

Strap Length: 40–46 in (102–117 cm)

Spacious and versatile—great for travel, work, or the beach.
