HAND MADE
Every piece at LAKA CHAKA is handmade with care, patience, and purpose. Our products are crafted knot by knot by talented Wayuu artisans who have passed down their weaving traditions for generations. No factories, no mass production — just artistry, culture, and soul in every stitch. When you carry a LAKA CHAKA creation, you carry a story woven by hand.

FAIR TRADE
At LAKA CHAKA, fair trade isn’t a label — it’s a promise. We work directly with Wayuu artisans and ensure they’re paid fair, dignified wages for their incredible craftsmanship. There are no middlemen, just genuine relationships built on respect, transparency, and shared success.

SUSTAINABLE
At LAKA CHAKA, sustainability means more than eco-conscious choices — it’s about creating lasting impact. We collaborate with skilled Wayuu artisans, turning traditional craftsmanship into a sustainable source of income. Each piece supports the Jaguapia community, helping artisans preserve their cultural heritage while building a better future.
Wayuu Heritage
The Wayuu people, originally from the Amazon, migrated through a nomadic journey to settle in La Guajira — Colombia’s northern desert. Known for their matrilineal heritage, Wayuu women are the heart of family and community, with children inheriting their mother’s last name. The crochet style of weaving, taught by mothers to daughters, is a unique craft and a living symbol of Wayuu wisdom, creativity, and heritage.
Each mochila is one-of-a-kind, crafted with colors and
patterns that reflect the artisan’s story. Made knot by knot,
these crocheted bags take 10 to 45 days to complete,
depending on technique and size. The shoulder straps are
woven on a homemade loom and the tassels are finished by
hand and toe.
